Regent Porto Montenegro

”This slick waterside hotel overlooks the marina at Porto Montenegro. Designed to reflect the region’s centuries-old ties with Venice, it is elegant, aristocratic and refined. Come here for open-air gourmet dining, an indulgent spa, outdoor pools and impeccable service. It stays open all year.”

Location

Within the Porto Montenegro complex, centring on a 460-berth super-yacht marina, rimmed by cafés, boutiques and yachting outlets. It lies on the edge of Tivat, in the Bay of Kotor (a dramatic meandering fjord-like inlet, enclosed by rugged mountains), four miles from Kotor’s Unesco-listed medieval Old Town.

The nearest airports are Tivat (4.5 km), Dubrovnik (46 km) and Podgorica (90 km).

Style and Character

Porto Montenegro
Porto Montenegro – Tivat Bay

Grand and refined, the hotel consists of two buildings, separated by an open-air Pool Club. The original Venezia wing (opened 2014) was inspired by noble Venetian-Renaissance architecture, while the neighbouring Aqua wing (opened 2017) is more contemporary. Tino Zervudachi of MHZ (Milinaric, Henry & Zervudachi) did the interior design for both – his former clients include Mick Jagger. The hotel overlooks the marina, filled with elegant sailing boats, setting an up-market outdoorsy mood.

Between the Venezia and Aqua wings, the Pool Club has a 40-metre infinity pool, ringed by sun-beds and palms, a lap pool and two kids’ pools. The hotel arranges spectacular weddings (including boat transfers to a 17th-century church on a tiny islet) and RYA sailing courses (eg the two-day Start Sailing for beginners).

In Venezia, there are 87 rooms, suites and residences (one, two or three-bedroom), all with balconies. Décor is subtly inspired by yachting, with the use of wood, fabrics in blues, cream and beige, and a linen canopy above the bed suggesting sails. Nespresso machine and tea-making facilities are provided. Spacious bathrooms come with a free-standing tub and walk-in shower, Aromatherapy Associates toiletries, and an open-window (with a sliding wooden shutter) giving into the bedroom. Aqua has 62 rooms, suites and penthouses, with voguish minimalist interiors, combining pale wood and fabrics in subtle blues and beiges, retro-chic furnishing and contemporary artworks.

The Murano Restaurant

The Murano restaurant occupies a grand space with high ceilings, chandeliers and Murano-glass artworks, plus outdoor tables in the lovely Italian Garden, overlooking the marina. Breakfast is a rich colourful buffet spread, with cooked-to-order choices – try the sublime eggs Royale. For lunch and dinner, Željko Knezović, who trained at Noma in Copenhagen, has devised sophisticated creative Mediterranean dishes, based on local seasonal organic ingredients, with an emphasis on Adriatic seafood. In winter, the smaller Pop Up restaurant showcases homely Montenegrin dishes, based on recipes submitted by locals.

The Library Bar, reminiscent of a London gentleman’s club, with leather armchairs, an open fireplace and occasional live piano, serves champagne and whisky. On the quayside, the Gourmet Corner café does buttery French patisserie and sorbets, while the Pool Bar (summer-only) serves drinks and light snacks.
